This species requires a large, well-filtered aquarium with clean water and stable parameters. A soft sand substrate is highly recommended, along with caves, driftwood, PVC tubes, and other secure hiding places. Because spiny eels are excellent escape artists, the aquarium should have a tight-fitting lid with all openings secured.
